15 Nov Press Release: DIG Becomes Calgary’s 8th B Corporation

November 15, 2016 – CALGARY

Calgary-based, startup company Do It Green, better known as DIG, has become only the eighth Calgary-based business and twelfth in Alberta to become a Certified B Corporation. B Corp is a relatively new class of corporations that are required to meet higher standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. It’s like Fair Trade certification but instead of a product, B Corp certifies the entire business, if they can meet the requirements.

“We are honoured and excited to be included among an exclusive list of modern, progressive companies that are making the world a better place” says DIG President, Rob Ironside. “It’s a very rigorous process to go through and something we’ve been striving for since our inception.”

There are over 1,900 Certified B Corporations like Patagonia and Ben & Jerry’s from 130 industries in 50 countries with 1 unifying goal – to redefine success in business. Local companies like Trico Homes, Fiasco Gelato and Benevity are also B Corporations; however, Alberta has been slow to join the fast growing movement. DIG hopes they can help change that.

“We interact with millions of Albertans through innovative environmental programs that we manage for our clients, including large special events,” said Ironside. “B Corp awareness will be included to the waste, water and sustainable power outreach we frequently do.”

DIG believes being a B Corp will bring greater value to their clients. “It gives our clients a greater confidence in our programs and recommendations because we are being verified by a credible third party. I would love to see more Alberta companies follow our lead and compete not only to be the best in the world, but to be the best for the world.”
